The Church gives us a year of grace in which we live the life of Christ season by season. For a Catholic family, the calendar is a teacher: it tells the story of our salvation again each year, and it fills the home with the feasts and the friendship of the saints.

The seasons

Four weeks of preparation

Advent

We wait in joyful hope for the coming of Christ. Families keep the Advent wreath, pray together, and prepare their hearts before the feast of the Nativity.

Twelve days of joy

Christmastide

Christmas is a season, not a single day. We feast with the Holy Family, the Holy Innocents, and the Epiphany of the Lord.

Forty days of penance

Lent

Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving prepare us for Easter. It is a season for children to learn that sacrifice and love belong together.

Fifty days of Resurrection

Eastertide

The Church rejoices for fifty days from Easter to Pentecost, because Christ is truly risen and has opened heaven to us.

The long green season

Ordinary Time

The weeks in which we live out the mystery of Christ in everyday life, keeping the feasts of the saints along the way.

Feasts we love

A few of the days our families look forward to. We keep many of them together through our Feast Day Celebrations club.
